Why Choose Birth Photography? | OKC Birth Photographer

FILED IN: Uncategorized

So let me start by saying, this blog post will probably be a little bias. 😉

If you know me, you’re going to know that I place a high value on birth photography and videography. BUT, I hope you hear me when I say – I realize birth photography is not for everyone.

Your birth experience is a super intimate, personal time in your life. Why would you want a camera there??

If you’re considering it (or just wondering why in the world anyone would want it) keep reading!

Here are some reasons you’ll want to hire a birth photographer:

You want a tangible way to remember your birth.

This one I can tell you from experience, you’re going to forget the day you brought your child into the world. As someone who is 13+ years away from her births, I can tell you that those sweet details of my fresh, new baby have long gone.

I wish I would have made it a point to have my births documented beyond just these two photos (one from each birth) that I walked away with:

Trust me, your kids will ask you about the day they were born, and having photos or a video of their birth is such a great way for you both to look back at the fine details of that day.

You consider this day as important or more important than your wedding day.

You wouldn’t skip out on hiring a photographer for your wedding, would you?

Just think how much more important the day your child enters the world is – I mean, A WHOLE LIFE was just made. Wowzers.

And, I get it, you’re dressed to the nines on your wedding day but finding an experienced birth photographer means getting shots that make you feel just as good.

And the emotions and connections you had during your wedding? They’re just a drop in the bucket compared to what it will be like on the day of your child’s birth.

You want someone there to capture the day without having to think about it.

Sure, you could have your husband, nurse, doula, or family member take photos on your phone for you…but wouldn’t you rather them be an active participant and be IN the photos?

Here’s the thing. Your partner…your birth team…your family…THEY ARE CHEERING YOU ON TOO. And you don’t want to miss that.

You want another support person who values you during your birthing process.

Building a birth team that helps advocate and support you is so important.

Hiring a birth photographer isn’t just about capturing images—it’s about inviting another support person into your birth space who truly values and honors you during one of the most vulnerable and powerful moments of your life.

A professional birth photographer should come with a deep respect for the sacredness of birth, quietly bearing witness to your strength, your emotions, and your story.

When you choose the right photographer, you’re gaining someone who knows how to hold space for you while preserving the moments that matter most—so you can stay present, feel seen, and never forget the beauty of your strength.
